Minimally Invasive Varicose Vein Treatment
The VNUS Closure procedure, or Endovenous Radiofrequency Ablation is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins that is performed by our vascular surgeons at the Vein Center of Georgia. Using temperature-controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy, our physicians apply the energy via a tiny catheter to close the saphenous vein – the vein that’s generally the main cause of symptomatic varicose veins, swelling and/or discoloration of the legs. Applying this RF energy through the vein wall causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins.
Many of our patients experience immediate relief of pain, leg heaviness and fatigue. In fact, they find our VNUS Closure and Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) options far superior to traditional surgical methods.
After the VNUS Closure procedure, our physicians prescribe compression stockings for one to two weeks. Patients can resume normal activity immediately, with the exception of high-impact exercise and heavy lifting for a period of about a week.
