Eliminate Spider Veins and Small Varicose Veins
Sclerotherapy, or injection therapy, is a minimally invasive treatment used to treat spider veins or small varicose veins. The procedure involves the injection of a solution directly into the affected veins, causing them to shrink and eventually disappear. Our board-certified vascular surgeons utilize a fine needle to inject a sclerosing agent into the abnormal vein, which causes it to cease functioning. Patients do not feel this happening, nor is the solution uncomfortable and, over a period of weeks to months, the vessel is absorbed by the body.
This procedure has been used for treatment of spider veins and small varicose veins for many years. It produces very safe and efficient results, often within 30 to 45 minutes (depending upon the number of veins treated).
During the procedure patients may feel a slight prick of the needle as well as a mild burning sensation. After treatment, patients are often instructed to wear compression socks. We offer a variety of post-sclerotherapy compression knee high socks as well as the higher compression thigh-high for patients receiving Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) for larger-size varicose veins.
After several treatments, most patients may experience a 50% to 90% improvement in the appearance of their legs. All skin colors respond equally well. However, the fading of the veins is gradual. You may maintain the clearance achieved by touch-up treatment as needed in order to keep your legs looking their best.
